Tories verliezen controle over gemeenteraad nadat leden overstappen naar UKIP

Dit is echt een prima ontwikkeling voor UKIP:
Today the Conservatives have lost overall control of Havering Council with the defection to UKIP of another three sitting councillors. Mayor Eric Munday has become increasingly frustrated with the direction of the conservative Party over recent years. Cameron has failed to tackle immigration as he promised and has instead pursued a foreign policy that would see us use military intervention in Syria, and one that is squandering taxpayers money propping up corrupt regimes around the world
Dit is werkelijk een fantastische manier om voet aan de grond te krijgen in gemeenteraden. Het impliceert namelijk dat jij met de dag sterker wordt, terwijl het een absolute puinhoop is bij je rivalen. En ja: twee andere raadsleden zijn ook overgestapt, het gaat om oud-burgemeesters Lynden Thorpe en Peter Gardner. Beide heren zeggen dat hun politieke opvattingen dichter bij die van UKIP liggen dan bij die van de Conservatives.
