Vlakbij het Al Qaeda-bolwerk Quetta is een Pakistaans politicus doodgeschoten. De man wilde een zetel veroveren in het provinciale afvaardigingshuis. Maar helaas: een kogel maakte een eind aan zijn leven:

A politician running for a provincial assembly seat in south-western Pakistan has been shot dead, a government official said today.

Saeed Ahmad said Abdul Fatah Magsi was gunned down in Jhal Magsi, about 350km south-east of Quetta, the capital of Baluchistan province.

Mr Ahmad said the candidate's supporters fired back and killed two of the gunmen. He said the attack appeared to be the result of a political rivalry.

Het toont de domheid aan van de Westerse strijdkrachten om zich terug te trekken uit het naburige Afghanistan. Als alle Amerikanen, Britten, Duitsers en Nederlanders weer veilig in 'Fort Europa' zitten breekt in deze regio pas écht de hel los. Deze moord op deze politicus is daarmee vergeleken nog maar een voorproefje.
