Het zijn interessante tijden.
Volgens New York Times journalist Maggie Haberman zijn Fox News/Wall Street Journaal baas Rupert Murdoch en Donald Trumps schoonzoon
Jared Kushner al enige tijd bezig om Trump ervan te overtuigen dat hij zijn 'chief strategist,'

op straat moet zetten. En nee, daarin staan zij niet alleen. Ook Lt. Gen. H.R. McMaster, de hoogste overheidsfunctionaris op het gebied van nationale veiligheid, haalde onlangs uit naar Bannon doordat hij niet wilde zeggen of hij al dan niet met hem kon samenwerken.
Bannon was tot hij lid werd van de Trump-campagne de grote baas bij Breitbart News, de rechtse website die tegenwoordig een grote aanhang heeft onder leden van de zogenaamde alt-rechtse beweging. In die hoedanigheid én vanwege zijn duidelijke economisch-populistische en zelfs nationalistische denkbeelden wordt hij door het establishment beschouwd als dé grote vijand. Ja, zelfs nog meer dan Trump zelf.
Dat is dan ook precies waarom Murdoch -- wiens ondernemingen met enige regelmaat onder vuur worden genomen door Breitbart.com -- en, jawel, Kushner van hem afwillen. En ja, dat lijkt iets van effect te sorteren. Volgens de New York Times is Bannon de laatste week namelijk geïsoleerd geraakt en overweegt Trump daadwerkelijk om hem te ontslaan:
For months, Mr. Trump has considered ousting Stephen K. Bannon, the White House chief strategist and relentless nationalist who ran the Breitbart website and called it a “platform for the alt-right.” Mr. Trump has sent Mr. Bannon to a kind of internal exile, and has not met face-to-face for more than a week with a man who was once a fixture in the Oval Office, according to aides and friends of the president.
Helaas voor Bannon-haters zijn er een paar problemen. Ten eerste hebben Trump en Bannon een hechte band gesmeed tijdens de campagne. Bannon steunde Trump toen namelijk door dik en dun, ja, ook toen de rest van de politieke wereld hem als een baksteen liet vallen. Daar komt nog eens bij dat Bannon de passie van Trumps hardcore achterban belichaamt. Als hij Bannon dumpt gaat dat Trump honderd procent zeker steun van zijn eigen achterban kosten. Er zijn niet veel politici, nee ook Trump niet, die dat aandurven.
Tenslotte, en dit is misschien wel het grootste probleem, heeft Bannon een ideale manier om terug te slaan als hij dat wil. Als hoogste baas van Breitbart News kan hij het Trump heel, heel, heel lastig maken. En ja, dat wordt al meteen duidelijk gemaakt doordat die website ook een artikel over deze materie heeft geschreven.
Daarin wordt Trump bijna bedreigd:
Haberman reports that Rep. Steve King (R-IA) has said conservatives would be “crushed” if Trump dumped Bannon while Rep. Mark Meadows (R-NC), the House Freedom Caucus chair, is worried that removing Bannon from the White House may embolden the Democrats and globalists to push Trump away from his voters.
Here’s the bottom line, though. Nobody is bigger than Trump. Certainly not Bannon.
But, as Trump himself has admitted numerous times, his movement is bigger than Trump. And getting rid of Bannon would be the strongest signal to his voters that Trump has sold them out, proving that Rubio was right when he mocked Trump as a con man during the 2016 campaign.
In West Virginia last month, Trump said his enemies were using the Russia scandals to take his historic election away from his movement.
“They can’t beat us at the voting booths so they’re trying to cheat you out of the future and the future that you won,” Trump said. “They’re trying to cheat you out of the leadership you won, with a fake story that is demeaning to all of us.”
Murdoch, along with his globalist White House allies like Gary Cohn, is trying to “cheat” Trump’s movement and voters like Trump’s Deep State and media enemies are trying to do with the Russia “scandals.”
And if Trump allows the Democrats and globalists to steal the White House from his movement by ousting Bannon, he will no longer have the moral high ground to complain about Russia because he will have effectively flipped double middle fingers to his voters and movement by siding with his movement’s opponents who have mocked and loathed Trump and his voters from the beginning.
In politics, as in life, it’s important to dance with the one that brung ya.
